# Handoff was never the dream ## Story option Handoff was never the dream. No great designer wants to spend their life making instructions for someone else to interpret. Designers are supposed to shape the thing. Software made that harder than it should have been, so an entire industry learned to confuse the file for the product. The file was the workaround. The product is the work. ## Notes - Preserves Alex's current correction: the story is about designers shaping software itself, not only functional product editing. - Keeps the enemy on handoff culture, translation loss, static representation, and files/proxies replacing the product. - Do not frame engineers as the villain; use the launch spine to keep engineering review in the loop.
